Sunny and pleasant weather Wednesday in New Jersey

Although temperatures will end up slightly cooler than the past several days, Wednesday’s looks like a winner of a weather day for the entire Garden State.
Here are your weather headlines for Wednesday, April 20, 2016…
Just Plain Pleasant
Most of the Garden State hasn’t seen a drop of rain in over a week – very uncharacteristic for April! Of course, I don’t hear too many New Jerseyans complaining, as this extended stretch of mild weather has been simply delightful. And it continues for Wednesday!
A weak cold front pushed through New Jersey on Tuesday. That means temperatures in the 70s and 80s will be put on hold temporarily, as a slightly cooler air mass takes over. Still, afternoon high temperatures in the mid 60s is close to normal for mid to late April. We’ll also enjoy bright sunny skies and a light northerly breeze (10 to 15 mph).
Thursday’s forecast looks good too, featuring mostly to partly sunny skies and a stiff breeze. High temperatures should recover to around the 70-degree mark. Skies will stay dry for the daytime hours on Thursday.
Next Rain Chance
As our next cold front approaches New Jersey, we’ll add a chance for showers to the forecast starting Thursday night. I actually think our first raindrops will fall after midnight Friday morning, with rain chances possibly continuing through sometime Saturday morning.
Frankly, as the weak intensity of this system battles New Jersey’s dry atmosphere, I do not expect big rainfall totals. Given marginal instability, there could be a few scattered thunderstorms on Friday, with a few localized downpours. The bottom line: Friday won’t be a washout per se, but there could be some wet periods throughout the day.
In between raindrops, we’ll see a brisk wind (with gusts to 35 mph) and warm temperatures well into the 70s.
The big question is how long the light rain will linger over New Jersey. The GFS model puts an end to the rain by midnight Friday night, while the NAM carries some fairly significant rain into Saturday morning. I’m leaning toward the drier, faster GFS solution at this time.
The Weekend (and Beyond)
Again, early Saturday morning may feature some rain showers. Eventually, skies will clear away to sunshine and our pleasant weather will resume for most of the weekend.
Temperatures will be seasonable (near-normal) for both Saturday and Sunday, with high temperatures in the lower to mid 60s. Sunday looks like the cooler day of the two, but only by a couple of degrees.
There are no “big” weather concerns on the horizon, but forecast uncertainty for early next week is admittedly highly uncertain. A front is expected to stall somewhere near/over New Jersey on Monday. That could lead to some persistent rain showers for much of Monday. And, given the air mass difference on either side of the front, we might also experience a big high temperature range Monday: 50s in North Jersey, but 70s in South Jersey?
